Neste Workshop de dois dias - para efeitos de certificação o equivalente à primeira parte do nível 1 de treino em Terapia Focada nas Emoções - Robert Elliott apresenta as bases da Terapia Focada nas Emoções/Processual Experiencial (Process-Experiential/Emotion-focused Therapy, ou PE-EFT).
A PE-EFT é um modelo terapêutico neo-humanista e pluralista com amplo suporte empírico. Baseia-se na Teoria das Emoções contemporânea e integra elementos de diferentes abordagens psicoterapêuticas - centrada-no-cliente, gestalt, existencialista – em torno de um conjunto de tarefas terapêuticas.
Robert começará por apresentar uma panorâmica geral da PE-EFT individual ilustrando-a com exemplos clínicos em vídeo: a teoria das emoções subjacente, os princípios de tratamento que orientam a intervenção, as tarefas terapêuticas manualizadas e os dados mais relevantes e mais recentes da investigação empírica. Seguir-se-ão pequenas apresentações, demonstrações em vídeo e trabalhos em pequenos grupos em torno de tarefas terapêuticas específicas, como, por exemplo, a Descoberta Evocativa Sistemática (Systematic Evocative Unfolding) e o Trabalho com a cadeira vazia (Two-chair Work).
Várias obras têm apresentado e exposto a Terapia Processual-Experiêncial, e entre elas Facilitating Emotional Change - Greenberg, Rice & Elliott (1993), e Learning Emotion-Focused Therapy - Elliott, Watson, Goldman, e Greenberg (2003).

Robert Elliott, Ph.D., é Professor de Aconselhamento e Psicoterapia na Unidade de Counseling da Universidade de Strathclyde, em Glasgow, Escócia. Obteve o seu Ph.D. em Psicologia Clínica na UCLA em 1978. Ensinou na Universidade de Toledo (EUA) entre 1978 e 2006, onde é, actualmente, Professor Emérito de Psicologia. Também leccionou como visiting professor na Universidade Católica de Lovaina (Bélgica), na Universidade de York (Canadá), na Universidade de Sheffield (Reino Unido) e na Universidade de La Troube (Austrália).
Foi presidente da Society for Psychotherapy Research (2000-2001) e co-editor das revistas científicas Psychotherapy Research (1994-1998) e Person-Centered Counseling and Psychotherapies (2001-2006). É co-autor dos livros Facilitating emotional change (1993, com Leslie Greenberg e Laura Rice), Learning process-experiential psychotherapy (2004, com Jeanne Watson, Rhonda Goldman e Leslie Greenberg) e Research methods in clinical psychology (2ª edição, com Chris Barker & Nancy Pistrang) e tem publicados mais de 100 artigos científicos e capítulos de livros. É "Fellow" na Divisão de Psicoterapia e Psicologia Humanista da Associação Americana de Psicologia (APA).
Recebeu, em 2008, o Prémio Carl Rogers da Divisão de Psicoterapia e Psicologia Humanista (APA) e o Prémio Distinguished Career da Society for Psychotherapy Research.

Workshop summary
This two day introductory worksho - a first half of an Emotion-Focused Therapy level 1 training - provides an overview of basic individual Process-Experiential/Emotion-focused Therapy (PE-EFT). PE-EFT is an empirically-supported, pluralistic, neo-humanistic therapy. Based on contemporary emotion theory, it integrates elements of client-centered, gestalt and existential therapies around a set of therapeutic tasks. We will begin with an overview of individual PE-EFT, including emotion theory, treatment principles, therapeutic tasks, and relevant research, illustrated with video examples. Sessions will include mini-lectures, video demonstrations and small group practice of selected therapeutic tasks, including systematic evocative unfolding and two-chair work. Process-Experiential therapy has been described in various books, including Greenberg, Rice and Elliott’s Facilitating Emotional Change (1993) and Elliott, Watson, Goldman and Greenberg’s Learning Emotion-Focused Therapy (2004), among others.
Brief bio statement
Robert Elliott, Ph.D., is Professor of Counselling in the Counselling Unit at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland. He received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from UCLA in 1978. He taught at the University of Toledo 1978-2006, where he is now Professor Emeritus of Psychology. He has also held visiting faculty positions as Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium), York University (Canada), University of Sheffield (UK), and La Trobe University (Australia). He served as President of the Society for Psychotherapy Research (2000-2001) and as co-editor of the journal Psychotherapy Research (1994-1998) and Person-Centered Counseling and Psychotherapies (2001-2006). He is co-author of Facilitating emotional change (1993, with Leslie Greenberg and Laura Rice), Learning process-experiential psychotherapy (2004, with Jeanne Watson, Rhonda Goldman, and Leslie Greenberg), and Research methods in clinical psychology (2nd ed., with Chris Barker & Nancy Pistrang), as well as more than 100 journal articles or book chapters. He is a Fellow in the Divisions of Psychotherapy and Humanistic Psychology of the American Psychological Association. In 2008, he received the Carl Rogers Award, from the Division of Humanistic Psychology (American Psychological Association) and the Distinguished Career Award from the Society for Psychotherapy Research.
